Book Review: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

I have mixed feelings about this book. This is my second time reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and although I believe that there are truly some serious gems of knowledge within the pages, somehow, this book just does not resonate with me fully. I love and agree with the four agreements but I think the book was repetitive as the author attempted to explain the four agreements in so many different ways when they really are quite self explanatory. My rating for this book is 3 / 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️.

“We make the assumption that everyone sees life the way we do. We assume that others think the way we think, feel the way we feel, judge the way we judge, and abuse the way we abuse. This is the biggest assumption that humans make.”

After reading this book the first time around several years ago, I thought maybe I wasn’t ready for this book, you know the saying “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear“…… maybe the student was not ready, I thought. But, having read this book again several years later, I think it isn’t that the student isn’t ready, the teacher just wasn’t that good. The book had too much “fluff” and some really abstract ideas about dreams and reality that I don’t think really added to the message 😳.

Don Miguel Ruiz states that The Four Agreements if implemented in your everyday life will help improve your quality life and make you a happier and more loving person ❤️. The agreements are as follows:

  • Be Impeccable with your word
  • Don’t take anything personally
  • Don’t make assumptions
  • Always do Your Best

I agree with the agreements! Lol  😊 Doing all of these things will improve your life but I don’t think that these agreements should have been explained in ten different ways. The summary of these four agreements on the inside cover of the book is good enough for me.

Under any circumstance, always do your best, no more and no less. But keep in mind that your best is never going to be the same from one moment to the next. Everything is alive and changing all the time, so your best will sometimes be high quality, and other times it will not be as good.”

Have you read this book? What did you think of it? 🥺

Much Love
