Book Review: The Duke and I by Julia Quinn & Bridgerton S01 on Netflix

All I can say is Daphne!!!

For the past few weeks one of the top shows on Netflix has been Bridgerton and earlier this week Netflix announced that this show was its biggest show ever as it was streamed by 82 million households in its first 28 days. Not only is it constantly on your Home screen being advertised when you sign in but the memes and articles are all over your Facebook feeds as well. So when my friend Safiya introduced me to the books, I decided to give it a go before I watched the tv show. I must say I was not disappointed! 😍 Rating for the first Bridgerton Book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Duke and I is the first book in an eight book series by Julia Quinn and tells the entertaining love story of the Duke of Hastings, Simon Bassett and Lady Daphne Bridgerton πŸ₯° 😘The book was very well written, it had a great pace, it kept you interested throughout and you just had to keep on reading. It was hard to just read one chapter of this book, you will actually end up reading four or five. In addition, I found that I really felt an attachment to the characters, I felt invested in this love story and I found myself rooting for them to ‘live happily ever after’ πŸ’’πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦. One of my favorite parts of the books were the Society Papers from Lady Whistledown which were just scandalous, so naturally, I loved it! 😏

Yes, I know certain parts of the book got some people extremely upset and I too was left with in a daze at the end of chapter 18, but overall I can’t help but say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I looked forward to coming home from work and reading a few chapters every day. I highly recommend you grab a copy of this book if you haven’t already, you won’t regret it πŸ˜„

A short note on the amazing Netflix Series:

After finishing the book, I decided to watch the series on Netflix and it was awesome. I wish Season 2 was coming out next week! Although, the show does not strictly follow the book, all the main juicy elements of the story are there and more! πŸ˜‰Shonda Rhimes did exceptionally well with this adaptation. The actors really bought the characters to life on the screen and the story although slightly different, was gripping. BTW…. the outfits for the first season …. were simply put, OUTSTANDING!

Have you seen the tv show Bridgerton or read the book The Duke and I? What did you think of the series / book?

Much Love

    1. Ohh you will enjoy it! The book was so so good. I find it rare that I enjoy both the book and a tv or movie adaptation…. often times the tv show or movie just does not do the book justice. In this case it did! Happy reading πŸ™‚

  1. Ikr on the costumes!! I love them! They were the first things to catch my eye when I started watching. I don’t think people praise them enough for the costumes.
I haven’t yet read the book, but I really want to.

  2. I’m usually behind in these popular movie trends so probably within the next 2 years or after the show is done, you might find me eventually watching it and either raving or quarreling about it lol. Great review though.

  3. Great review. I feel that I would enjoy the book as well as the series but…No…I’ll have to pass on this one. I think that it will take up too much of my time.

  4. I watched it back to back. The costumes and settings were a feast for the eyes. Totally loved it and watching it again. Love that it also ended well for the lead chatacters but clearly there were still some unanswered questions needing another series😊 Im happy just to watch. Good review.
