This book is pretty much the reason why I love biographies! ๐Tara’s story is truly amazing, mind-bobbling, engrossing, unbelievable and inspiring. Wow ๐ฏwas the word I kept repeating as I read this book. How did she do it? How did this little girl who grew up in the mountains of Idaho to a family of survivalists assimilate herself into “modern day” society and excel. To me, it could only be God’s work. Whether you believe in God or not, you cannot deny that this woman who overcome so many ups and downs, abuse, family estrangement, mind games, among a plethora of other issues, to become a Cambridge and Harvard educated New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Boston Global Best Selling author had to have some angels keeping her safe and guiding her along the way. This book was my favorite book for 2020 without a doubt. Rating 5/5. Get yourself a copy. Thank me later ๐
The main reasons why I loved this book is because it was so real, honest, emotional. You felt her pain, you saw the world through her eyes, you understood her struggles, you even understood why sometimes she took one step forward and then two steps back ๐ณ Yes her family is dysfunctional but you saw her grapple with the guilt of trying to leave them to make a better life for herself but at the same time still wanting to be a part of the family she grew up with, still wanting and needing their love and support.

This book is one of the best memoirs I have ever read. You just can’t make this stuff up! Some of my favorite quotes include:
“We are all of us more complicated than the roles we are assigned in the stories other people tell”
“My life was narrated for me by others. Their voices were forceful, emphatic, absolute. It had never occurred to me that my voice might be as strong as theirs.”
“The decisions I made after that moment were not the ones she would have made. They were the choices of a changed person, a new self.
You could call this selfhood many things. Transformation. Metamorphosis. Falsity. Betrayal.
I call it an education.”
I really think that everyone should read this book at least once in life ๐ The book costs USD $13.00 (Hardcover) on Amazon.
Have you read this book already? What did you think of it?
Much Love

I loved this book as well! I listened to it on audible and was just blown away at everything Tara went through. It’s interesting from an educational perspective too, how someone could more or less self-educate through sheer force of will and then succeed in higher education. It made me think a lot about how people learn and how important self-discipline can be.

So very true. It shows that part of education is of course what you are taught but also how much you want to learn and how hard you are willing to work is also very important. Thank you for your comments ๐๐
