Why is it so easy to put on weight yet so hard to take it off? I could put on 5 pounds in 2 days and it could take about 3 – 4 weeks for me to lose 5 pounds (and keep it off). Why is that? 😒During these lockdown times where movement is restricted and in my country for example, we are no longer allowed to play contact sports such as football or volleyball, we have to become much more creative with how we exercise. This post is dedicated to all those persons who are tying to keep fit during lockdown, here is what has been working for me 🏋️♂️🤸♂️:
Watch what you eat! 🍦 🥧 🧁
Now, I love food, especially junk food. I will never say, give up KFC or Pizza forever or cake and icecream, that for me is just too hard to do. I love a two piece and fries from KFC (a thigh original and a leg spicy) brings me great joy BUT if I am eating junk for lunch, I will not overdo it 🍗🧈 🥞 🧇. I will never have a three piece spicy and fries for lunch and then three slices of pizza for dinner. Yes, I know some people could eat all of this and never really put on weight (if you are that person, congrats honey, you are blessed), but for my body, that just can’t work. Know your body type and when you really are just consuming too much food. Do you really need that extra slice of pizza or was two slices enough? You had cake today, do you really need to have some icecream also? Be mindful about what you eat. Watch what you eat! 🍿 🍩 🍪
If you can’t run, then walk – do some kind of exercise.
Yes, on my island, beaches and rivers are currently closed and contact sports are banned but we can still go out for walks or runs in our neighborhoods once we wear a mask 🏃♂️ 🏃♀️. This is a good way to keep active and not end up spending days upon days just sitting in the house. Yes, still take your mask with you but if the grocery store is close by, take a walk for a newspaper, and if you can, also take a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood. Sometimes I really don’t feel to do any strenuous exercise at all but I know I could at least psych myself up for a 20 minute walk at a cool pace and sometimes that 20 mins walk could turn into 30 and burn about 200 calories, you just need to start moving👩
Youtube Dance workouts
I am only doing exercises that I enjoy and I was happy when I stumbled upon this wonderful, fun, YouTube page called Fit Body by Ashley! 😊 Her workouts are fun, the music is awesome and you burn a lot of calories without even realizing it. There are many other dance workouts like this that you can find on YouTube if you enjoy Latin Dance, Zumba, Hip Hop, there is a YouTube dance / workout instructor for you. If you don’t want to dance, there are also sites like Popsugar fitness cardio routines from as short as 10 mins to even 1 hr long. Just find what works for you.
Stop those late night snacks!
Stop eating late at night (a tall glass of chocolate milk or cappachino with cheesy toast sandwich is not a good idea at 10pm, drink some water and go to sleep)😕 🙁 Trust me I know it is hard, but it is best to eat those high calorie food or snacks during the day rather than late at night 🍔 🍟 🍕 If are up late and must munch on something, have a herbal tea and a low calorie snack (check the label).
The scale is your friend, track your progress
Invest in a home scale to track your progress. You need to see if these changes are helping you to either maintain your weight or to lose weight if you want to. Be careful however, to not become obsessed with just your weight and to check it twice a day, your weight will fluctuate by a couple of pounds each day so pick one day a week for a weigh in, track your weight in pounds or kg, your BMI, your fat%, water %, muscle %…. you want that as you continue to exercise, your fat%, BMI number, and weight decreases and your muscle % increases .
This is the most important point. I think trying to do some sort of exercise 4 or 5 times a day is a good start. Keep the time consistent and if you really don’t want to do anything, push yourself to do a walk around the block or a ten minute exercise routine from Youtube. Just do something.
PS> I am no health expert or nutritionist, I am just telling you what works for me as I try not to put on too many pounds during these Covid times.
