Now this was a good book but just not a good book for me. It honestly as we Trinis would say, was real bacchanal from the start. My friend Hannah recommended this book to me and although I found it entertaining, I rated it 3 / 5 because it really was too much drama for me 😐
This book was written by Tayari Jones and is the story of Celestial, Roy and Andre. Roy and Celestial were newlyweds when there world was unexpectedly turned upside down. While they were in that blissful honeymoon stage, Roy was wrongful arrested, convicted and thrown in jail. From this point on things just continued going downhill… fast 😦
The story was very well written, it actually feels like it is a true story, there are highs and lows, happy times and very sad times and you couldnt help but think, what in world would I do if I were Celestial? (It was even weirder for me as my name is Celeste) I also really enjoyed the writing style, each chapter is from the point of view of one of the main characters so it provides various perspectives as the story progresses. I really enjoyed this aspect of the writing 😀
The reason why I rated this book as only 3 / 5 was because for me, I don’t like a book that brings drama into my life or stresses me out. THIS BOOK HAD ME STRESSED OUT! Reading for me is either education type eg biographies like Trevor Noah or Michelle Obama where I can learn life lessons or a fantasy story where I escape into a whole new world like in Game of Thrones or Yara Star Triology. I am not really a fan of drama books like this as I like to smile or be laughing while reading, this kinda just had me sad for the most part, it dealt with a lot of difficult situations where people had to make tough decisions 😕
If you like drama fiction type books, then this is a good book for you. It is well written, gripping and entertaining and deals with issues of loyalty, love, family, race, relationships and injustice in the US Justice System. The book is available on Amazon for US $7.99 for the Paperback copy and US $12.06 Hardcover.
Have you read this book as yet? What did you think of it? 🙂
