Book Review: The Eld Queen

The Eld Queen is the second book in the YaraStar Trilogy by Trinidadian author Jeanelle Frontin. Honestly, I could not wait to get my hands on this book 😀 After finishing the first book, The Unmarked Girl  (check out my review on this book The Unmarked Girl by Jeanelle Frontin) I had so many questions that I just needed answered, I wanted to know more of the story, I felt like I was left on a cliffhanger (pretty much like how I felt when John Snow was stabbed to death by his fellow men from the Night’s watch at the end of Season 5 of Game of Thrones). Thankfully, the wait between book 1 and book 2 was only a couple of months and I was able to get my hands on this book in March. My rating 4 / 5 😎

The second installment of the YaraStar Trilogy answered many of the questions that I had after reading the first book. Yara has now discovered who she is, she is the Queen of the planet Mira. However, although she is happy to finally know who she is and also to learn about her birth parents, the reality that she is now the leader of Mira is a scary one. She feels unprepared, under-qualified and simply not good enough for such an important responsibility. She also does not who to trust and who to confide in. Have you ever felt like this? I am sure there have been moments in your life when you feel like you  have been thrown into the deep end and told to “sink or swim.” :/

I particularly enjoyed the writing style for this second book. Some of the chapters were written recounting stories from Yara’s mother’s point of view 4000 years ago and contrasting that with what Yara was going through at the present moment. It was a novel approach to connect the past and the present. Just like the first book, it was a captivating,  easy read and you really felt like you were on an adventure with Yara. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy novels, adventure books. This is how I felt when I was reading this book! I am Yara, I feel her struggles, her joys, her pains, her insecurities, her triumps ❤

The second book in the trilogy, The Eld Queen is also available on Amazon at a cost of US $11.99 (paperback), US$5.99 (Kindle) and RIK Bookstores for TT$140.00.

Much Love,
