Book Review: Think and Grow Rich

Rating: 4/5

Think and Grow Rich written by Napoleon Hill is one of the greatest inspirational books of all time, if you listen to motivational videos on YouTube or have read a few self-help books, chances are someone has mentioned this book. It is not a book that you just pick up and read for fun or just for entertainment. You need to have an open mind and an open heart to receive and to believe in the many words of wisdom stated in this book. It is often cited as one of the books that could truly help to change your life ❀

I help run a small business and reading this book really motivated me and forced me to open my eyes to the limitless possibilities that every individual is capable of. Think big! Dream! Have a definite purpose! Believe in yourself! Work Hard! Think positive thoughts! πŸ’‘

If you ever second guess yourself, think you are insignificant or there is nothing special about you or that you are not good enough to do something, this book is what you need, it is the jump start to help you get going πŸ˜€ Among the many words of wisdom throughout the book, there are also numerous inspirational stories about persons who were able to make a fortune from an idea that they believed in, it started as a thought but through their burning desire to succeed, faith in themselves and their abilities, persistence, a positive attitude, organized planning and ensuring that they are surrounded by persons who push them and encourage them, they were able to succeed. This is the story of the Ford Motor Company, Coca Cola and numerous others.

In my opinion, this book is a motivational book in its truest sense. It really uplifts your spirit and inspires you to go after your dreams, yet be grounded in reality. It reminds you that you cannot expect to succeed if you do not put the work in first.

The book speaks a lot about gaining material riches, I agree that money is important but i also believe that if you are doing something that you love and you are passionate about it, you will be able to make money. But money, from my personal standpoint, should not be your main reason for pursuing a particular course of action. This is why I gave the book 4/5 instead of 5/5.Β It is however, a very good read and a book that I think should be studied rather than read casually. Below, I have highlighted some of my favorite quotes from this book:

β€œBack of all this demand for new and better things, there is one quality which one must possess to win and that is Definiteness of Purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and a burning desire to possess it.”

β€œNo one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.”

β€œOur only limitations are those we set up in our own minds”

β€œDesire backed by faith knows no such word as impossible.”

“I am the master of my fate, the captain of my soul.”

“The person who stops studying merely because he has finished school is forever hopelessly doomed to mediocrity, no matter what may be his calling. The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge.”

β€œTemporary defeat should mean only one thing, the certain knowledge that there is something wrong with your plan.”

β€œA quitter never wins and a winner never quits.”

“The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat. If you find yourself lacking in persistence, this weakness may be remedied by building a stronger fire under your desires.”

“The fear of criticism robs man of his initiative, destroys his power of imagination, limits his individuality, takes away his self-reliance, and does him damage in a hundred ways.”

This book is available on Amazon for US $7.83 (Paperback). Be sure to get yourself a copy….. a highlighter and a notebook will be an asset πŸ™‚
